Okanagan equine veterinary services serves as a referral equine medical, surgical and reproductive centre for horses in the Okanagan Valley and throughout, British Columbia. Established in 1983 by Dr. Sheila McDonald, Okangan Equine is now located on a 13 acre farm in Southeast Kelowna B.C.

Dr. Grant Scott, Board Certified in Equine surgery, joined Dr. Mc Donald in 2007.

The 6,500 square foot clinic includes a full surgery suite, hospital barn, laboratory, pharmacy, and examination and treatment areas. Reproductive facilities consist of an indoor arena with a stallion collection area, stalls for AI mares, and a fully equipped breeding lab. The farm is divided in paddocks of various sizes for housing broodmares, stallions and horses undergoing therapy or rehabilitation.

Dr. Scott offers surgeries such as arthroscopy, laparoscopy, fractures repair and other othopedic procedures including colic surgery, head and throat surgery along with more routine procedures. Other services include digital radiography, upper airway endoscopes, soft tissue ultrasounds, and full range of dentistry.

Dr Sheila provides a full range of breeding and foaling services at the clinic or on the breeding farms. These includes breeding soundness evaluation of mares, treatment of reproductive problems, and artificial insemination utilizing fresh, cooled and frozen semen. Stallions may be brought to the clinic for semen collection, breeding soundness and semen evaluation, preparation of semen for cooled shipping and freezing of semen. Dr. McDonald also performs surgery of the reproductive tract including repair of rectovaginal tears, urethral extension and vaginoplasty. Routine and high risk foaling is available at the farm.

Okanagan Equine has recently become accredited as a quarantine facility where stallions can be collected onsite for the purpose of shipping frozen semen internationally.

Both Dr McDonald and Dr Scott are available for all types of farm calls and the clinic offers a 24-hour emergency services.
